Men's tennis begins play in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team opened the fall season at the 43rd annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of Georgia.

In Division I singles action, Ryan Lipman, the overall No. 3 seed, defeated Miami’s Keith Crowley, 6-3, 6-3 and will face Ivan Machado of South Carolina in the second round. Playing in his first collegiate match, Blake Bazarnik defeated Stetson’s Hans Adrian Riseng, 6-2, 7-5, in the second round of Division II after earning a bye in the first round. Charlie Jones and Alex Zotov also advanced to the third round of Division II.

In doubles play, the duo of Jones and Alex DiValerio will face Pierre Tafelski and Dave Barton of Mercer, while Bazarnik and Andy Pulido will take on Stetson’s Riseng and Alexander Hackett on Saturday morning. Both Vanderbilt pairs received byes in the first week.

Singles play resumes Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with doubles play following at 5 p.m.
