Men's Tennis Announces Signings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ­ Vanderbilt men’s tennis coach Ian Duvenhage announced the signings of Charlie Jones and Alex DiValerio to National Letters of Intent on Thursday. Both Jones and DiValerio will join the Commodores in the fall of 2008.

“I’m really happy with this class,” head coach Ian Duvenhage said. “They are both really talented players, who will help our program in a great way.”

A native of Destrehan, La., (Destrehan High School) Jones is ranked No. 32 in the class of 2008 by Tennisrecruiting.net and owns a 61-17 mark in junior tennis. Jones is ranked No. 1 in Louisiana for the class of 2008 by the same site. In the most recent USTA Boys’ 18 Singles rankings released on Nov. 14, he is ranked No. 141.

Just this past October, Jones won the Bullfrog USTA Southern Section Designated in Mobile, Ala.

DiValerio is a native of Malvern, Penn., and he attends Malvern Preparatory School. He is ranked No. 70 in the class of 2008 and No. 4 in Pennsylvania by Tennisrecruiting.net. DiValerio is also ranked No. 135 in the USTA Boys’ 18 Singles rankings, which were released on Nov. 14.

The Commodores will begin their spring slate on Jan. 27 against Michigan State.
