TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Playing on day two at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational, Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team continued its strong play with two singles players and a doubles team advancing to the finals of their respective draws on Saturday.
On the day, Vanderbilt posted a 5-3 record in singles and 3-2 mark in doubles. Advancing to the finals in singles play were Charlie Jones and Alex Zotov.
Playing in the Bryant draw, Jones defeated Tennessee’s Matt Brewer, 7-6, 6-3. Zotov topped Daniel Moser of Chattanooga, 6-0, 6-1, in the Namath draw. Also in the Namath draw, Alex DiValerio won his third-place match over Moser after losing his semifinal match.
In doubles, Adam Baker and Charlie Jones advanced to the finals of the Crimson draw by notching two wins on Saturday. The Vanderbilt duo defeated Tennessee’s Ed Jones and Max Stevens, 9-8, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the VU duo topped UAB’s Tyrone Ewels and Daniel Moster, 8-5.
Also earning wins on Saturday were James Moye in consolation singles and the doubles team of Scott Lieberman and Andy Pulido in the round of 16 in the white draw.
Vanderbilt will conclude play at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational on Sunday.
