Dos Goldsmith

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Two Commodores shot their best round of the week Tuesday as the Vanderbilt men’s golf team moved up two spots to finish 10th at the Golden Eagle Country Club’s Seminole Intercollegiate.

Junior Dos Goldsmith and sophomore Brett Lange bested their two previous rounds by scoring 73 and 74, respectively, during Tuesday’s third and final round on the course’s par-72, 6,635-yard layout. Combined with a one-under 71 from junior Luke List and a two-over 74 by freshman Jon Curran, Vanderbilt carded its best round of the week to move past the College of Charleston and host Florida State into 10th place.

Individually, List finished in a four-way tie for eighth place at two-under-par, while Curran was 17th. North Carolina State’s Stephen Lewton defeated Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson in a playoff to capture medalist honors. The pair finished 54 holes at 13-under-par, four strokes ahead of North Carolina’s Martin Ureta.

But Johnson’s performance helped propel his team to the overall championship. Scoring two-under on Tuesday to finish the tournament at minus-13, the Chanticleers took the team title by seven strokes over North Carolina State. North Carolina, East Tennessee State, Ole Miss and Mississippi State rounded out the top six.

The Commodores will take part in two more tournaments this month. They travel to the Hall of Fame Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas, March 17-19, before heading to The Hootie at Bull’s Bay in Awendaw, S.C., March 26-28.
