Mason to participate in ESPN's Megacast Monday

Jan. 11, 2015

Bristol, Conn. – Vanderbilt Head Coach Derek Mason will join a select group of coaches and analysts Monday night on ESPN’s “CFP Megacast” of the national championship between Ohio State and Oregon. Mason and three other head coaches will participate in the Megacast “Film Room” from network headquarters.

The show, which debuted successfully last year, will air live on ESPN2, starting at 7:30 p.m. CT.

ESPN’s Megacast Film Room earned critical acclaim last year after coaches and analysts provided unique content and critiques while breaking down the Florida State-Auburn game. It became the network’s second most popular viewing option following the ESPN traditional telecast.

Mason will be joined by Dan Mullen (Mississippi State), Pat Narduzzi (Pittsburgh) and Mike Riley (Nebraska). ESPN analysts Tom Luginbill and Chris Spielman also return for the second straight year.

Produced in a casual studio setting, Film Room allows coaches and analysts will provide relaxed commentary of key plays and strategies while breaking down the Xs and Os of the Oregon-Ohio State matchup in real time. The show also will have access to every camera ESPN uses during the broadcast.

Mason’s defenses at Stanford slowed Oregon’s high-tempo spread offense in two recent Cardinal victories, 17-14 in 2012 and 26-20 in 2013.

The other three participating coaches also faced the two championship teams in recent years or have ties to the contending head coaches. Narduzzi faced both Oregon and Ohio State this season as a Michigan State coordinator. Prior to recently accepting the Nebraska position, Riley served 12 years as head coach of Oregon State, the Ducks’ cross-state rival. Mullen served as an offensive coordinator at the University of Florida under current Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer.

The Film Room presentation is one of 12 alternative productions of the national championship across ESPN’s diverse multimedia platforms.
