“The Mason Rudolph Championship is our most fun tournament of the year.  It is so special to be able to play at home in front of our Vandy golf family. They are the people who make our program what it is. Vanderbilt Legends Club is an amazing place to call home, and we are grateful to everyone here who supports us every single day of the year. We are excited to have such a strong field here this week with five teams ranked in the top 20 in the country and some of the best amateurs in the world.

“The guys have had a great couple of weeks of preparation and working to continue to build the right habits as we head towards championship season.  We are shaping our competitive character each time we have the opportunity to play. I want to see a group play with meaningful purpose and belief in what we are trying to accomplish.  It’s about having joy in the journey and getting out there and letting it rip.”

The Commodores at the Mason Rudolph
This year marks the 24th edition of the Mason Rudolph Championship. The annual event began in 2001 and has been held every season since, outside the COVID pandemic, where it was canceled in 2020 and played as the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate in 2021. The tournament is named after middle Tennessee golf legend Mason Rudolph.

Vandy has won seven of the last nine team titles at the Mason Rudolph Championship and has won the event a total of nine times. Last season, Auburn claimed the team title with a score of 38-under 814.

Wells Williams seeks to become the second Vandy golfer to win the event in back-to-back seasons. The All-American captured medalist honors at the 2025 Mason Rudolph Championship with a 54-hole score of 15-under 198. Only Gordon Sargent (2023, 2024) and Florida’s Sam Horsfield (2016, 2017) have won multiple Mason Rudolph Championships in the event’s history.

A total of eight Commodores have won nine Mason Rudolph Championships, which include Brandt Snedeker (2002), Luke List, (2005), Matthias Schwab (2015), Hunter Stewart (2015), John Augenstein (2018), Cole Sherwood (2022), Gordon Sargent (2023, 2024) and Well Williams (2025).

The Last Time Out
Vanderbilt posted its second-best 54-hole score of the 2025-26 season at the 20th Linger Longer Invitational, as the Commodores carded 20-under 844 to finish in third place.

The Commodores collected a top-five finish for the sixth time this season. Vandy has concluded two of its three spring tournaments inside the top three. A trio of Dores carded under par at the Linger Longer Invitational, while freshman Jon Ed Steed and senior Wells Williams both posted a top 10 finish. Steed collected the first top-five finish of his young collegiate career, claiming fourth place with a career-low score of 9-under 207. The freshman carded under par in each round over the weekend, posting scores of 69-70-68.
