NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt linebacker Bryan Longwell has been named vice chair of the SEC Football Leadership Council. The league announced appointments to the football leadership council and SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SAAC) on Thursday afternoon.
Longwell will be joined in a leadership role by South Carolina’s Oscar Adaway III, who will serve as chair. In addition, Alabama’s Barry Evans and Texas’ Ethan Doehler were chosen chair and vice chair, respectively, of SAAC.
The SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Councils provide an opportunity for SEC student-athletes to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. Leadership Councils for football and men’s and women’s basketball, along with SAAC, provide a conduit of communication to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience, student-athlete wellness and playing rules.
Longwell just capped his sophomore season by leading the team in tackles (89) and starting all 13 games. He was third on the team with 7.5 tackles for loss and was one of three players on the roster to have a sack and an interception on the season. He finished eighth in the SEC in total tackles and fourth among sophomores.
The Lipscomb Academy product made nine tackles in the Commodores’ Birmingham Bowl victory over Georgia Tech. He was named Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week after notching a career-high 12 stops in Vandy’s win over No. 1 Alabama, the school’s first-ever victory over the nation’s top-ranked team.
For his career, Longwell has played in all 25 games during his time as a Commodore with 15 starts and 125 career tackles. He enters 2025 part of a Vandy defense that returns its three leading tacklers from last fall, as Longwell is joined by Langston Patterson and Randon Fontenette who made 78 and 73 tackles, respectively.
The Commodores are scheduled to begin spring practice March 4 in preparation for the Aug. 30 season-opener against Charleston Southern. Ticket information is available now.
