NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Amanda Lockwood made her first two starts in nearly a month count.
On Tuesday, the BIG EAST Conference rewarded Lockwood for a superb two games by naming her the Attacker of the Week. Goalkeeper Maddie Kratz was also honored, tabbed to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Lockwood scored seven goals, dished out an assist and collected four draw controls in wins against Cincinnati and Connecticut. The junior from Milton, Ga., hadn’t started since March 15, and she quickly made her coaches’ decision to put her in the lineup pay off.
Lockwood scored three goals and tied a career-high with four draw controls in a 13-8 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday. She then matched another personal-best with four goals in a 10-9 double-overtime win over Connecticut on Sunday.
Three of her goals came after halftime, including two that sparked a comeback after the Commodores trailed 8-5 with 19 minutes left. She tied the game with 5:37 remaining in regulation and then delivered the game-winning assist in double overtime when she found Caroline Peters for the golden goal.
Kratz, a senior from Wilton, Conn., continued her stellar play with 20 saves, just 17 goals allowed and a .540 save percentage in two games. She made 11 saves against Cincinnati and came up big against UConn. She had nine stops, including a huge save as time expired in the first overtime to force a sudden-death second overtime.
Kratz ranks second in the BIG EAST in saves per game and fourth in save percentage. She has 60 saves in her last six games.
Vanderbilt (6-8, 3-2 BIG EAST), which has won three straight, wraps up its home schedule against Marquette at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the VU Lacrosse Complex.
