List Third, Commodores Sixth In Carolina 4/8/2006
CARY, N.C. — A stellar day from Luke List moved the junior into third place at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate, as the Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished sixth in the 14-team field Saturday on the 6,787 yard, par-72 Willard Byrd layout of the MacGregor Downs Country Club. List carded seven birdies with only one bogey to shoot a six-under 66, which tied for the lowest round of the day. The Ringgold, Ga., native jumped from 13th place up to third as he finished the tournament at seven-under-par. Freshman Jon Curran also posted a Top 20 finish, shooting three-over on Saturday to finish the event at one-under-par in a three-way tie for 13th. Junior Dos Goldsmith and sophomore John Ebert were the Commodores’ other scorers in Saturday’s final round. Both VU golfers shot 76 over the final 18 holes. A Goldsmith birdie on the 14th hole brought the McAllen, Texas, product back to plus-four, while Ebert used a birdie on 16 and an eagle on 17 to bring his round back to four-over. One-over through the first two rounds of action, sophomore Brett Lange shot a 10-over 82 on Saturday. Duke’s Ryan Blaum ran away with individual medalist honors, finishing the tournament at 14-under-par — six strokes ahead of Tulsa’s Nicolas Geyger. Geyger birdie five of his final six holes to edge out List by one stroke. Kentucky took the team title at 10-under, four strokes ahead of Duke.
