List Breaks Top 20 At Carpet Capital 11/5/2005
ROCKY FACE, Ga. — The Vanderbilt men’s golf team shaved 13 strokes off its Friday total, carding a nine-over-par 297 on day two of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm Golf Club. The 18-team field will finish with 18 holes Sunday on the Par 72, 7,010-yard layout. Georgia State and top-ranked Georgia share the lead at three-under with one day to play. Friday’s leader, Florida, dropped to third place at even-par. Duke (+2), Texas Tech (+3), Georgia Tech (+4), Clemson (+6) and East Tennessee State (+8) round out the top eight. Junior Luke List continues to lead the Commodores. List shot two-under on Saturday, bringing his tournament total to one-over par, good enough for a tie for 17th place. Freshman Jon Curran improved by seven strokes from his Friday round, shooting a one-over-par 73 on Saturday. Freshman Tyler Matthews shot four-over, a two-stroke improvement from his Friday performance. At six-over, junior Dos Goldsmith also scored for the Commodores. Rounding out Vanderbilt’s squad was freshman Brett Lange at nine-over. Georgia’s Chris Kirk maintained a one-stroke lead over the field. Kirk stands at seven-under, just ahead of Mark Haastrup and Joel Sjoholm of Georgia State. A total of 14 players in the field of 90 are below par. Play at The Farm concludes with 18 holes on Sunday. |
