NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A few weeks after garnering Co-SEC Freshman of the Year honors, Vanderbilt’s Ryan Lipman added another freshman accolade to his growing resume when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association named him ITA Ohio Valley Rookie Player of the Year on Thursday.
Lipman was one of 12 freshmen across the nation to receive top freshman billing by the ITA, which selects the top rookie player from all 12 regions. The Ohio Valley includes teams such as Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisville among others.
The Nashville native is ranked No. 34 in singles and has compiled a 22-13 overall record, including a 12-10 mark in dual play at the No. 1 position. Lipman finished SEC play 6-5 and was the only freshman to play No. 1 singles during league play. He has defeated 10 ranked opponents this season.
A first-team All-SEC selection, Lipman was also recently selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga.
Lipman and the Commodores are preparing to open NCAA Tournament play in Louisville, Ky., at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday against No. 23 Virginia Tech.
