TULSA, Okla. – First round play in qualifying action began on Monday at the ITA All-American, as Vanderbilt’s Ryan Lipman knocked off Florida State’s Jordan Kelly-Houston to advance to the second round.
Lipman defeated Kelly-Houston in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 to move on to the second round, which begins Tuesday morning. Lipman, a redshirt junior, will play Rok Bonin from Minnesota. The winner will then play in the third round, which will be played Tuesday afternoon.
Jeff Offerdahl was also in action of the qualifying stage Monday, but was eliminated by Duke’s Raphael Hemmeler 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1.
Gonzales Austin will begin play on Thursday in the main draw. Austin and Lipman will also be in action in the main draw of doubles play. They are the lone doubles team for Vanderbilt.
