Lipman falls in first round

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Ryan Lipman fell in his first round match of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Lipman and Mississippi State’s Romain Bogaerts went head-to-head in a three-set battle in the round of 32. The Nashville, Tenn., native won the first set 6-2, before dropping the final two sets, 5-7, 6-7(2). The two SEC competitors fought back and forth before Bogaerts won the final point to advance to the round of 16.

Lipman will now have a chance to play for fifth place as he will play in the consolation bracket Friday.

Playing in his second USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Lipman is now 1-2 for his career. During his sophomore season, he won his first round match over Michigan’s Evan King, before falling in the second round to Sacramento State’s Kiryl Harbatsiuk.

With the loss, Lipman is now 8-3 in singles play so far this season.
