BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Vanderbilt entered Sunday with one singles player and one doubles team remaining at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships. When competition ended Sunday, the Commodores still had a player in the singles draw and a team in the doubles draw, as freshman Ryan Lipman advanced to the finals in singles and the doubles team of Lipman and senior Vijay Paul advanced to the semifinals.
Lipman earned a spot in his first tournament final as a collegian by defeating Indiana’s Josh MacTaggart in the quarterfinals and Louisville’s Simon Childs in the semifinals.
Lipman won his match against MacTaggart, 6-3, 6-2 and defeated Childs, 6-4, 7-6(2). He is yet to lose a set in the tournament. Lipman will now face Kentucky’s Eric Quigley in Monday’s final.
In doubles, Lipman teamed with Paul to defeat Louisville’s tandem of Simon and Austen Childs, 8-6, in the quarterfinals.
Lipman and Paul will face Tennessee’s duo of Boris Conkic and Rhyne Williams in Monday’s semifinal.
