FLUSHING, N.Y. – In the first day of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Vanderbilt sophomore Ryan Lipman won a three-set match over Michigan’s Evan King to advance to the second round on Friday.
Lipman dropped his first set, 3-6, but came back and tied the match with a 7-6(5) victory in the second set. He came away with a 6-4 win in the third set to claim the match.
The Nashville native will face Kiryl Hartbatsiuk of Sacramento State in the second round. Hartbatsiuk won his first round match with almost the identical score as Lipman, topping No. 6 Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
