NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football head coach Clark Lea has been named Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week.
The honor comes after the fourth-year head coach led the Commodores to a 40-35 win over No. 1/2 Alabama on Saturday. It was the first victory in school history over the nation’s top-ranked team and the first Vanderbilt win over a top-five program.
The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week honors a coach who led his team to a significant win while also embodying the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity.
In addition to the win on the field, Lea’s teams have excelled in the classroom. Last season, a program-record five players were named Academic All-District selections by College Sports Communicators while the team posted a 3.106 grade-point average, a program best in the fall semester.
The Dodd Trophy is awarded annually to the FBS head coach whose program represents the highest ideals on and off the field by the Peach Bowl.
Lea and the Commodores return to the gridiron Saturday at Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on SEC Network.
