BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore Hannah Clark came off the bench to score a career-high four goals as the 13th-ranked Vanderbilt lacrosse team (1-2) picked up its first victory of the season in Baltimore with a 17-10 win over UMBC (2-2).

Seniors Carter Foote and Sarah Downing each had a season-high four goals for the contest. In the breakout offensive performance, Ally Carey, Alex Priddy, Katherine Denkler, and Anastasia Adam also added goals for the `Dores. The 17 points scored by Vanderbilt are the most scored since last year’s 18-11 win against Notre Dame.

Vanderbilt jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before going into halftime up 8-6. Foote, Priddy, and Clark opened up the second half with three straight unanswered scores as the Commodores went on to stay undefeated all-time against UMBC with four wins against the Retrievers.

“Overall, it was a great team performance,” said Commodore Head Coach Cathy Swezey. “We needed a win like this and I thought we played a little harder. Our defense really turned in a great performance.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Wills finished with 10 saves for the game.

The Retrievers were led by Amanda Pappas, who finished with three goals for UMBC.

The `Dores return to action on Sunday, March 7, when they travel to Palo Alto, California, to take on No. 15 Stanford.
