Lax travels west for match against Cardinal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team has traveled across the country for spring break, first taking on the 13th-ranked Stanford Cardinal this Sunday, March 6th, followed by the Denver Pioneers on the 9th.

Sunday’s match begins at 3:00 pm CT and will be the Commodores second road game of the season. The squad comes off a thrilling 10-9 victory over Elon last weekend, giving Vanderbilt a 3-1 overall record. VU’s lone loss of the season came in a 15-5 defeat by then-No. 17 Louisville.

Kelly Chandler, is tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in goals with 11 on 20 shots, and is tied on the team in points with Jill Doherty with 12 apiece. Overall, VU is currently averaging 11.75 points per game, and 28.8 shots per game.

Doherty also leads the Commodores at the draw with five and has the second highest amount of assists, sitting behind Emma Dagres at three.

Goalie Callahan Kent sits atop the BIG EAST in saves with 32 so far this season. Having started all four games in the cage for VU, the junior has faced a total of 69 shots on goal.

Stanford will be the Commodore’s second ranked opponent this season, and heads into Sunday’s matchup with a 3-1 record. The Cardinal come off a 13-4 win against the Harvard Crimson last Sunday. Stanford’s one loss the season came from then-No. 7 Notre Dame, earned a 13-9 victory at home in South Bend, Ind.

Last season Stanford traveled to West End, leaving Nashville victorious with a 22-11 win over the Dores.
