STANFORD, Calif. — The 14th-ranked Commodore lacrosse team (1-3) lost Sunday at 15th-ranked Stanford 14-9 as Leslie Foard scored five goals for the Cardinal (4-2).
Katherine Denkler’s goal four minutes into the second half brought the Commodores within two goals, but the Commodores were unable to rally the rest of the way as Stanford held on for the win.
Sophomores Ally Carey and Alex Priddy led all Vanderbilt scorers with two goals each. A week after being named the American Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Carey turned in another impressive defensive effort for the `Dores with five ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
The Commodores return to action on Wednesday, March 10, to face the unranked Longwood Lancers at the VU Lacrosse Complex. It will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm CT.
