NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 14 Vanderbilt lacrosse team picked up its third straight win on Wednesday, defeating the Louisville Cardinals 20-13 at the VU Lacrosse Complex. Sophomore Ally Carey turned in her best performance of the season for the `Dores, finishing with four goals, seven draw controls, three caused turnovers, and two assists in the win.

Louisville junior Bergan Foley’s game-high seven goals were not enough for the Cardinals, who drop to 4-2 on the season.

“We’re really pleased to see our team being more consistent,” said Commodore Head Coach Cathy Swezey. “We’re also really proud of how Ally Carey is playing. She is one of the best, true midfielders in the country.”

The Commodores jumped out to a 4-0 lead when senior Carter Foote scored with 23:13 remaining in the first half. Foley’s five first half goals then gave the Cardinals an 8-8 tie heading into the half.

The `Dores were strong again at the opening of the second half, scoring five straight goals to move ahead 13-8. After regaining the lead, Vanderbilt did not look back, finishing with Kendall Pittinger’s goal with 0:39 left.

The 20-point total is the highest for the Commodore offensive attack this season. Also contributing were Carter Foote (four goals), Sarah Downing (three), Emily Franke (three), and Hannah Clark (two).

Defensively, Claire Leonard and Alex Mundy stood out for the `Dores. Leonard totaled four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Mundy recorded three ground balls and two caused turnovers, respectively. Vanderbilt finished with 20 caused turnovers for the game.

The Commodores will return to action on Sunday, March 21, when they host Penn State at the VU Lacrosse Complex. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
