Three first-team members highlighted four Commodores on the West/Midwest Region All-America list, released last week by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and US Lacrosse.
Seniors Sasha Cielak and Margie Curran, and junior Cara Giordano were all named to the first team, while senior goalkeeper Brooke Shinaberry was a second-team selection. A total of 128 student-athletes representing four regions will now be eligible for the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced later this week.
A defensive midfielder from Sparks, Md., Cielak is Vanderbilt’s all-time leader in caused turnovers. This marks her third consecutive season on the West Region All-America team.
Curran, an attacker from Moorestown, N.J., broke VU’s records for career points, assists and draw controls this season. She has also been a regional All-American three times.
Another Moorestown native, Giordano was a second-team honoree a season ago. The midfielder was among Vanderbilt’s leaders in goals, points and draw controls.
Shinaberry had an outstanding season between the pipes for Vanderbilt en route to being named the American Lacrosse Conference Goalie of the Year. She made 148 saves on the season to lead the Commodores to a school-record 13 wins.
