PHILADELPHIA – With flurries falling in Philly, the Vanderbilt lacrosse team suffered a hard 7-3 setback to the Temple Owns Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Commodores head into Wednesday’s completion against Cincinnati with a 4-8 overall record.

VU struck first in Saturday’s BIG EAST showdown, as Mallory Schonk connected to Kelly Chandler for the redshirt-juniors’ 28th goal this season. 20 seconds later the Owls responded by a goal of their own. Both teams exchanged goals twice more with the third Temple goal kicking starting a four-goal streak, which took the Owls into the second half with the 6-3 lead.

Coming out of the locker room the Owls secured an additional goal, which was followed by a Commodore timeout. Vandy kept the Owls scoreless following their opening goal, although VU led in shooting throughout the second half, missed shots and opportunities by the Commodore offence led to Vanderbilt’s third loss of league play, 7-3.

NOTES:

-Emma Dagres led the Commodores in scoring with two goals

-Vanderbilt goalie, Callahan Kent, had eight saves for the black and gold to TU’s four

-Chandler led the ‘Dores in shots, taking four

-Jill Doherty and TU’s Connor tied with three draw controls

-The owls committed less fouls and turnovers

-VU outshot Temple in the second half, 11-8

NEXT TIME OUT:
Vanderbilt will search for its first conference win Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm, as the Commodores host Cincinnati in a midweek BIG EAST matchup. The Bearcats come off an 11-5 defeat against Villanova.
