EVANSTON, Ill. — The second-seeded Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team dropped a 14-3 decision to top-seeded Northwestern Sunday in the 2008 American Lacrosse Conference Tournament championship game at Lakeside Field.
While Northwestern (17-1, 4-0) earns the ALC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, Head Coach Cathy Swezey’s Commodores (13-5, 3-1 ALC) await word on their postseason fate. The NCAA selection show will take place on Monday, May 5, at 6 p.m. CT.
After taking a 7-3 lead into the halftime break, Northwestern took control of the second half and held the Commodores scoreless over the game’s final 33 minutes. Seniors Margie Curran and Ashley Paschall, and sophomore Carter Foote each scored for Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt seniors Sasha Cielak, Michele Slotke and Curran all were named to the All-Tournament team. Slotke and fellow senior Leslie Koch paced the Commodore defense with three caused turnovers each.
