NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 2008 Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse schedule, featuring nine home contests, was released Thursday by Head Coach Cathy Swezey.
The Commodores are looking to build on the momentum of their third trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past six seasons. Vanderbilt won a school record 11 regular season games last year on its way to hosting a postseason contest for the first time.
“We are excited to play one of the most competitive schedules in the country again this spring,” Swezey said. “Our league schedule alone accounts for four top 20 opponents. Then you add in ACC powerhouses UNC and Duke, and teams like Notre Dame and Cornell that always command respect, and we’ll be well-prepared for postseason play once the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament comes around in May.”
Vanderbilt opens the 2008 season at home against newcomer Cincinnati before traveling to face UMBC (Maryland-Baltimore County) and Lehigh (Pa.). The Commodores will play six home games in March, including contests against Virginia Tech, Boston College, and ALC rival Penn State.
Three of the team’s five games in April occur on the road, with trips scheduled to Johns Hopkins, Albany, and Notre Dame. Vanderbilt closes the regular season at home against Duke before traveling to Evanston, Ill., for the ALC Tournament.
The 2008 NCAA Final Four will take place in Towson, Md. Vanderbilt reached the 2004 NCAA Final Four in Princeton, N.J.
The Commodores will spend the month of October playing “Fall Ball”, including trips to the Hound Round Robin at Loyola (Md.) College and to George Mason University.
