Vanderbilt lacrosse seniors Claire Leonard, Catherine Mitchell and Katherine Denkler have been named the team’s 2011 captains, Head Coach Cathy Swezey announced Monday.
Leonard, Mitchell and Denkler were chosen as captains by a vote of their peers. The trio have all started every game of the past two seasons for the Commodore lacrosse team.
Leonard and Mitchell are mainstays in Vanderbilt’s defense, while Denkler will be the Commodores’ leading returning goal scorer next year. Vanderbilt has won 22 games in the last two seasons while extending VU’s streak of consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament to four.
Vanderbilt will open the 2011 season on Feb. 12 at Presbyterian. The Commodores will play host to seven regular season games this season before welcoming the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament to Nashville in May.
