NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team dropped a tough decision Tuesday night, with a 15-5 loss to a talented 17th-ranked Louisville Cardinal squad.
The Cardinals got off to a quick 7-0 start, which the Commodores could not recover from. The run was spearheaded by a powerful draw control performance by senior Kaylin Morissette who went 10-0 in draw controls in the half.
Vandy earned its first goal late in the first half as Mallory Schonk found the net off of an assist by Alexa Kunowsky. By the conclusion of the half, the Commodores trailed the Cardinals 8-1 heading into the locker room.
Louisville struck first after intermission, but Schonk responded to the attack, securing her second goal of the night for the black and gold.
For a span of almost 17 minutes, which began from the start of the second half, every time the Cardinals scored, Vanderbilt was there with an answer. But the goal differential was too great, as the surge could not make up for the Cardinal’s powerful first half performance.
In goal, Callahan Kent made her third start of the season and secured 12 saves for the team. Louisville’s Read earned her fifth win, making eight saves on Vandy’s 17 shots.
The Commodores end their three game home stand this Sunday as the squad hosts Elon (3-0) at 12:00 pm CT.
