Lacrosse Releases 2005 Schedule 9-10-04 9/10/2004 Head Coach Cathy Swezey announced the Commodores’ 2005 schedule Friday, and the Vanderbilt lacrosse team will again face off against many of the nation’s top programs. A total of 15 games make up the 2005 slate, including seven road matches and eight home contests. A charter member of the American Lacrosse Conference, Vanderbilt will open the season at league-rival Penn State (Feb. 26). A mid-April swing through Ohio (April 15) and Ohio State (April 17) will mark VU’s other conference road games. The Commodores will play host to conference foes Johns Hopkins (March 18), Davidson (April 10) and Northwestern (May 1) during the season. Last year’s VU-JHU match was featured on College Sports TV, while the Northwestern match clinched the Dores’ second conference title in three years. Vanderbilt’s non-conference schedule features a number of exciting home games, including contests against Notre Dame (March 9), Hofstra (March 20), Duke (March 24), Stanford (March 28) and North Carolina (April 8). The Dores will also take to the road for trips to New Hampshire (April 1), Virginia (April 24) and Cornell (May 7). “We continue to play one of the most challenging schedules in Division I lacrosse,” Coach Swezey said. “And our conference has now proven to be one of the most competitive in the nation, as we had as many as five teams ranked in the top 20 last season. We look forward to another great year.” In all, VU will take on six teams that advanced to the 2004 NCAA Tournament, including national champion Virginia. The Commodores open the preseason at the South of the Border tournament, hosted by Duke and North Carolina on Feb. 12, 2005. |
