The Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team continued its tour of the United Kingdom this week, playing a match against a club from Heaton-Mersey, located 15 miles south of Manchester, on Tuesday. The Commodores looked sharp, defeating their British hosts by a score of 16-4 for their second consecutive victory of the trip.

Goalkeeper Ashley Bastinelli made eight saves in the match while allowing only one goal. Liz Exline saw action in the darkness-shortened second half, making four saves against three goals. Both netminders supported the defenders in front of them, making a pair of interceptions and scooping three ground balls.

Rebecca Ferrell and Lauren O’Hearn each forced a pair of turnovers to lead the strong defensive effort. O’Hearn also led the squad with three ground balls in the match. Bridget Morris, Joanna Mooney, Jess Roguski, Meg Spies and Exline all contributed a pair of ground balls for a Vanderbilt squad that picked up 20 loose balls.

The Commodores also won more than half of the draw controls in the match, led by three from Kate Hickman. The Vanderbilt attack was able to turn possession into points time and time again. Lauren Peck led the way with three goals and an assist. Colleen Morris also contributed four points on two goals and two assists.

Jeannie Crawley, Tara Schmucker and Christine Tubesing each scored a pair of goals, with tallies also coming from Hickman, Mooney, O’Hearn, Spies and Lindsey Nauman. Adding assists for the Commodores were Crawley, Spies, Hickman, Roguski, Michelle Allen, Kim Gianis and Bryn Sedlacek.
