The Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team has earned its third straight berth in the NCAA Tournament and will open postseason play at sixth seeded Notre Dame on Sunday, May 10.
Head Coach Cathy Swezey’s squad earned an at-large bid for the third straight year after boasting a 10-6 overall record.
The two squads are familiar with each other — Vanderbilt and Notre Dame met three weeks ago with the Commodores coming away as 18-11 winners in Nashville. Vanderbilt holds a 9-4 edge in the all-time series, including three straight victories. Last year in South Bend, Vanderbilt defeated Notre Dame, 9-6.
The winner of Sunday’s game will face either third seeded North Carolina or Colonial Athletic Association champion Towson on Saturday, May 16.
No. 2 Maryland and No. 7 Syracuse are the other seeded teams in Vanderbilt’s half of the bracket. Top seed Northwestern, No. 8 Princeton, No. 4 Penn and No. 5 Duke are the seeded teams on the top half of the bracket. The 2009 NCAA Final Four will be hosted by Towson on May 22 and 24.
