Lacrosse head coach not returning

June 20, 2018

Vanderbilt Director of Athletics David Williams II announced today that Cathy Swezey’s contract will not be renewed as head women’s lacrosse coach.

“We would like to thank Cathy for her service to Vanderbilt Athletics and the university,” Williams said. “We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

In 1997 Swezey became the second head coach in program history, compiling an overall record of 163-180. She guided the Commodores to American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) championships and NCAA appearances in 2002 and 2004, including a Final Four appearance in 2004. She also led the program to NCAA berths in 2007-2010.

“I appreciate the opportunity to have been the coach at Vanderbilt,” Swezey said. “I am confident that this program is poised to achieve great things in the coming years. I am so proud of what we were able to accomplish in terms of the student-athletes’ development both on the field and in the classroom.”

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
