NASHVILLE – The Vanderbilt lacrosse team was held to its lowest offensive output of the season Tuesday in a 15-4 loss to No. 13 Stanford at the VU Lacrosse Complex.
The Cardinal scored on their first four shots of the game to take an early lead, but Vanderbilt responded in the fifth minute with a goal from freshman Kelly Chandler. Eleven minutes later, senior Carly Linthicum netted her 37th goal of the year to bring the Commodores within two goals.
Vanderbilt would hold Stanford scoreless for 20 minutes before the Cardinal got back on the board and eventually closed the half with a three-goal run to take a 7-2 advantage into the break.
Stanford would continue its run in the second half, stretching its lead to 12-2 before freshman Emma Dagres scored on a fast-break opportunity directly off a draw control. Freshman Ashlin Dolan scored the Commodores’ final goal of the game in the 57th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Chelsea Pasfield made 12 saves on the day and came up with two ground balls and one interception. Her Stanford counterpart, Lyndsey Munoz, made 13 saves.
Vanderbilt was led defensively by senior Paige Cahill and junior Alyssa Dunlap, who each caused two Cardinal miscues. Cahill also picked up a game-high five ground balls.
Vanderbilt returns to American Lacrosse Conference play this weekend, traveling to Baltimore to face Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field on Saturday, March 30, at 1 p.m. ET. Vanderbilt will then return home to play host to Harvard on Monday, April 1, at 2 p.m. CT, for the Commodores’ final weekday contest of 2013.
