GREENVILLE, North Carolina — Vanderbilt lacrosse fell at American Athletic Conference rival East Carolina 15-10 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Paige Finneran tallied a career-high three goals. Sophomore Josie Ward tallied three consecutive goals in the final minutes to earn her second hat trick of her career.
East Carolina punched first, connecting on back-to-back goals at the midway point of the first quarter. Vanderbilt responded with goals from Lila Huddles and Finneran to even the score at the end of one. The Pirates connected for a third time in the second quarter to go up one goal, but Nellie Blaze went coast to coast, finding the back of the net for the first time this season. Finneran scored a second time to tie the game at the break, 4-4.
In the third, East Carolina outscored the Dores 7-2, but Cate Bradley found Molly Finlay in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter to bring Vandy’s deficit to 11-7. The Pirates would connect for three straight goals to extend their lead.
Ward checked into the game with 3:50 minutes remaining in the game and scored her three goals in less than a minute to close out the fourth.
East Carolina held on to win 15-10.
