Lacrosse defeats UAlbany, 15-5

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 14th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team defeated UAlbany, 15-5, on a cloudy Sunday at John Fallon Field.

Vanderbilt (10-4, 3-1 American Lacrosse Conference) never looked back after closing the first half on a six-goal run to take control of the game. The Commodores held a 7-1 lead at the halftime break.

Junior Cara Giordano led all scorers with four goals and one assist. Seven Commodores found the back of the net Sunday, including a hat-trick from sophomore Carter Foote. Senior Ashley Paschall, sophomores Sarah Downing and Allie Frank each scored twice on the day. Senior Margie Curran and freshman Meghan Rose also scored goals for VU.

Five players scored unassisted goals for UAlbany (8-6, 2-2 America East). The Great Danes were able to control 12 of 22 draws on the day.

Reigning ALC Player of the Week Brooke Shinaberry made seven saves on the day for Vanderbilt — stopping more than 50 percent of the shots she faced for the fifth time in six games.

The Commodores remain on the road this week, traveling to South Bend, Ind., on Wednesday to face Notre Dame. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET. Vanderbilt will return home to close out the season against Duke on Sunday, April 20, at 1 p.m. CT.
