VOTE DAILY FOR MOLLY KINSELLA for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award (thru Nov. 14).
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — On the eve of the 2010 Southeastern Conference Tournament, Vanderbilt senior Molly Kinsella has been named the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Heading toward her final semester at Vanderbilt, Kinsella is carrying a 3.89 grade point average in molecular & cellular biology. She already has been accepted to the Pharmacy School at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, her home town.
The Commodores’ second-leading scorer this season, Kinsella also was named to the All-SEC Second Team after scoring four goals and adding five assists during the regular season. She ranks in Vanderbilt’s career Top 10 in goals, assists and points.
Kinsella is the SEC’s lone finalist for the 2010 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, which honors senior student-athletes that excel both on and off the field. Fan voting, which is available on the internet through Nov. 14, makes up one-third of the award total.
Defender Claire Romaine also was honored by the conference Tuesday as part of the SEC All-Freshman Team. Romaine started every game of her freshman season in the Commodore defense, logging 1,759 minutes during the year while sitting for a total of only 11 minutes in VU’s first two games.
Kinsella, Romaine and the rest of the Commodores will take on Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the 2010 SEC Tournament at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
