TULSA, Okla. – Charlie Jones continued his play at the ITA Men’s All American Championships with two solid wins in Thursday’s play, including another match lasting over three hours.
Jones beat his first opponent, David McCarthy of Ohio State, in straight sets, winning 7-5, 6-4. In his second match of the day, against Marcus Giron of UCLA, Jones split sets in the grueling three hour match, topping Giron 7-5, 4-6, 6-6 (4-1).
“Charlie is playing great tennis right now,” said assistant coach Jamie Hunt. “He has won five matches in four days against the best competition in the country. He is not satisfied though, he wants to win this tournament, and if he keeps this level of play up, I believe he can.”
Jones plays Daniel Nguyen Thursday morning at 11:30 in the quarterfinals.
