Johnson and Stallings Lead Commodore Caravan to Clarksville and Memphis

April 30, 2007

Vanderbilt football head coach Bobby Johnson and men’s basketball head coach Kevin Stallings are scheduled to meet with Commodore fans in Clarksville and Memphis next week as part of a Commodore Caravan coordinated by the National Commodore Club (NCC).

Johnson and Stallings will discuss their programs in Clarksville on Tuesday, May 8. Two days later, they will travel to Memphis for a similar event set in the historic Beale Street entertainment district.

Johnson, entering his sixth year at the helm of Vanderbilt football, is expected to talk about the 2007 Commodores, a team that features 17 returning starters that went 4-8 last year. Among the returnees are All-American wide receiver, Earl Bennett, All-American linebacker prospect Jonathan Goff, All-SEC offensive tackles Chris Williams and Brian Stamper, and dual-threat quarterback Chris Nickson.

Stallings concluded his eighth year at Vanderbilt as the 2007 Southeastern Coach of the Year. He is expected to discuss the Commodores’ run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt’s six wins over ranked opponents during the regular season finished third in the nation. The team was paced by senior wing player and Memphis native Derrick Byars, the coaches’ pick for SEC Player of the Year.
