Jess Roguski Named To U.S. Developmental Team 6-15-04

6/15/2004

BALTIMORE, Md. — Commodore alumnus Jess Roguski, a 2004 tri-captain for the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team, was one of 24 players named to the 2004-05 United States Developmental Team, announced Monday by Barb Jordan, chair of the U.S. National Teams selection committee.

Tryouts were held over a two-day period at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. The team is under the direction of Sue Murphy, Head Coach of the U.S. Developmental Team and the head lacrosse coach at the University of Richmond.

The team will participate in events leading up to the 2005 International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) World Cup, which will be held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The trials for the 2005 U.S. World Cup team will take place in the fall of 2004.

“This is an exciting opportunity for me,” Roguski said. “I’m happy for the chance to continue playing lacrosse competitively, but I also know that this will help me grow as a coach.”

This fall, Roguski will begin working as an assistant coach at Ohio University, where she will work alongside OU Head Coach Kate Brew, a former Commodore assistant under VU Head Coach Cathy Swezey.

Roguski earned All-America honors after leading Vanderbilt to the NCAA Semifinals in 2004. A four-year starter and two-year captain for the Commodores, Roguski ranks first in career games started at VU (65), third in goals (117) and fourth in points (141).

“It is quite an honor to have a Vanderbilt player represented on one of the U.S. squads,” Swezey said. “We are very proud of Jess’ accomplishment. She has earned this recognition with hard work, and I doubt there is anyone more deserving than Jess.”
