Jared Spires Named Vanderbilt Women’s Soccer Assistant Coach

7/7/2004

Nashville, Tenn. — Vanderbilt Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ronnie Coveleskie Hill has announced the hiring of Jared Spires as assistant coach.

“We are extremely excited to add Jared to our coaching staff,” Coveleskie Hill said.  “He is one of the brightest young coaches in the soccer world right now.  His enthusiasm for the game, ambition and soccer knowledge is going to help take Vanderbilt women’s soccer to a new level.”

Spires comes to Vanderbilt after serving as Director of the Real Colorado Soccer Club since 1999.  Also during that time, he was an advisor and coach for Colorado ODP.  Prior to that, he spent one year as the head coach of the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams at Fort Collins High School and six seasons as head coach for the Fort Collins Arsenal.

With Spires at the helm, Real Colorado won 15 state championships.  Prior to his tenure, Real Colorado had never won a state cup.  In 2004, six of his teams were state champions, including the U15, U16, U18 girls’ and the U13, U15 and U16 boys’ teams.  The 2004 ODP National Championship boy’s team consisted of 16 players, 12 of whom played for Spires.  His 2002 ODP Colorado team finished second in the nation.  Every player on his U18 girl’s team has received an athletic scholarship, and he has coached several US National Team players.  Spires also earned 1997 High School Coach of the Year honors.

“Vanderbilt soccer is fortunate to have the opportunity to add someone of such high character and soccer expertise to our staff,” Coveleskie Hill added.  “I am positive that he is the proper fit for our team and more importantly for our coaching staff as we embark on a season filled with high expectations.”

Spires has a bachelor of science degree from Colorado State University and has a USSF A license and an NSCAA advanced national diploma.

The Commodores begin the season August 17 (Tuesday) by hosting a scrimmage with Furman.  The regular season opener is August 27 (Friday) vs. Wake Forest in the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
