Play will continue at the 2003 ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 7, as the qualifying tournaments for both the men and women get underway. The women will send five singles players and two doubles teams to Pacific Palisades, Calif., for Tuesday’s opening rounds, while junior Scott Brown and the doubles pairing of senior Zach Dailey and Lewis Smith will be in action for the men in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Junior Audra Falk swept through three matches in pre-qualifying without dropping a set. She will face Anca Dimitrescu of Florida State on Tuesday. The remaining four singles players all were placed through to the qualifying tournament. Seniors Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos, sophomore Ashley Schellhas and freshman Amanda Fish all will begin play on Tuesday. Schmandt will take on Shana McElroy of Wisconsin, with Tsoubanos facing Carine Vermuelen of USC. Schellhas has drawn Alicia Salas of Notre Dame, while Fish will be up against Courtney Nagle of Oregon.

The first and second rounds of singles action both are scheduled for Tuesday, followed by the qualifying round on Wednesday. In the doubles draw, the team of Schmandt and Tsoubanos has earned the No. 2 seed, and will take on Carter and Sumantri of Washington. The pairing of Falk and Menees swept through pre-qualifying action this weekend, and will face UT-Arlington’s Cizova and Novakova in Tuesday’s qualifying action.

On the men’s side, Brown will open the qualifying tournament with a match against Jeff Kader of William & Mary. Brown, ranked No. 73 in the nation and seeded No. 15 in the qualifying tournament, earned a bye through pre-qualifying. In doubles, Dailey and Smith won three matches over the weekend to advance into the qualifying tournament. They will face Butler’s eight-seeded duo of Brandon and Kevin Gill.

Both qualifying tournaments feed into main draws that will be contested through this weekend. All Vanderbilt results will be posted to vucommodores.com, as soon as they are made available. For complete coverage of the two tournaments, visit itatennis.com.
