Hull Adds Another Win

Sophomore posts top finish for Commodore swimming in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Aubrey Hull earned another individual victory and added a second-place finish to pace Vanderbilt swimming in its competition with host San Diego State and San Diego at the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday.

The sophomore touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke and was runner-up in the 100 backstroke, with Quinlan Hinerfeld and Merritt Zieminick also placing second in at least one race. Kate Heintz and Madelyn Porter contributed third-place results as well, however the Commodores fell 146-107 to the host Aztecs and were defeated 165-128 by the Toreros.

The Dores are next in action when they celebrate Senior Day with an SEC tri-meet against Kentucky and Texas A&M. The competition will get underway at the Centennial Sportsplex at 1 p.m. on Jan. 16.

Meet Highlights
-Hull was fourth after the first 50 in the 200 back before edging ahead at the midway point of the race on her way to the victory.
-Hinerfeld placed second in the event with Grace Ciaramitaro finishing fourth as well.
-Zieminick and Porter were second and third, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle in the first individual event of the day.
-In the 200 fly, Heintz touched the wall third to pace the Commodores.
-Amelia Harper led Vandy in the 100 breaststroke with a fifth-place result.
-Both Melissa Cowen and Taylor Carey ended up among the top five in the 200 breaststroke with Zieminick and Heintz accomplishing the feat in the following event, the 500 freestyle.

Notes
-Hull’s win in the 200 back was her fifth of the campaign and 13th over the last season-plus, both figures that lead the team.
-This was the third straight meeting in the San Diego State series to be hosted by the Aztecs, and the fifth time the two programs have met overall since the 2014-15 season.
-It marked the first time the Dores have faced San Diego dating back to Oct. 16, 2015, the initial matchup in the all-time series.
