Hudson Johnson wins Hooters event

Aug. 15, 2011

Former Commodore great Hudson Johnson shot an 8-under 63 in the third round of the NGA/Hooters Tour’s TimberCreek Golf Classic to take the lead and added a 5-under 66 in the final round to win his first NGA/Hooters Tour event by four shots over David Miller and Michael Lavery.

“It’s such a relief,” Johnson said of his first professional victory. “Going into the final round with the lead, I was a little nervous. I felt like I had everything lose. I was playing with David Miller; he was solid and kept the pressure on me. But once I got to the 16th tee and saw I was three up, I knew the pressure was on him. I felt comfortable after that.”

Johnson, a former Vanderbilt standout, finished the event with rounds of 67-67-63-66 for a 21-under 263 total. Johnson earned $28,000 for the win, but he believes the experience may be worth more in the long run.
