Commodores kick off fall season with Commodore Scramble

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis program begins its fall campaign this Friday by playing host to the Commodore Scramble.

“We’ve only had three days of official practice but we’re excited find out exactly where we are in terms of competition,” said head coach Ian Duvenhage.

No. 26 Vanderbilt welcomes No. 35 Ole Miss, Auburn, Belmont, Lipscomb and Tennessee Tech to the Currey Tennis Center.

Following a 16-12 campaign that culminated with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Commodores return nine student-athletes for the 2019-20 season. The Dores will also debut two freshmen this weekend in James Ignatowich and Keaton Allwardt.

Last season in the Commodore Scramble, junior Max Freeman secured the individual title for the Commodores in the singles A bracket, while sophomore Marcus Ferreira was champion of the B bracket.

The Commodores open the tournament with the first round of doubles play beginning at 9 a.m. CT, followed by the first round of singles at 10 a.m. The Dores will wrap up play on Friday by battling in the second round of doubles.
