HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The Commodores led early in the second half, but would eventually fall to the Pride of Hofstra, 10-6, on a rainy day at James M. Shuart Stadium.

In an early first half full of turnovers, the Pride broke the scoreless tie when Casey McGrath knocked one in at the 17:55 mark. But the Commodores would answer quickly when Margie Curran scored on a free position at 15:33. It would remain tied until 9:16 in the half when Kate Hickman scored off of a pass from behind the goal from Kendall Thrift giving the Commodores a 2-1 lead.

Hofstra answered a minute later on Casey McGrath’s second goal of the game, knotting the score at 2-2.  The score would remain 2-2 at the half.

The Pride started the scoring in second half when Catherine Guerriere scored on a feed from Kimberly Hillier at the 27:31 mark, giving them a 3-2 lead. A little over two minutes later, Jennifer Tapscott would create her a goal of her own to tie the score at 3-3. In the game’s 36th minute, Tapscott would score again on a beautiful one-timer from Kendall Thrift, giving the Dores their second lead of the game, 4-3.

Vanderbilt had opportunities to increase its one-goal lead, but was unable to convert giving Hofstra a chance to get back in the game. After the Commodores lost Molly Frew for three minutes on a yellow card, the Pride took advantage, scoring three times in a 50-second span, which gave them a 6-4 lead at the 19:13 mark.

Hofstra would go on to score four more unanswered goals before Kate Hickman notched her second goal of the contest with 6:03 remaining, cutting the deficit to 10-5.  Leslie Koch would add another goal for the Commodores.

Thrift dished out two assists and picked up three groundballs on the day, while Leslie Koch added a goal and an assist. Bryn Sedlacek and Sasha Cielak caused two turnovers apiece. Cielak also had two groundballs for the Commodores. Cara Giordano had a game-high three draw controls.
