Hickman Earns Player of the Week Honor 4/18/2006
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt senior attacker Kate Hickman was named the American Lacrosse Conference’s Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. In a pair of wins against ALC opponents over the weekend, Hickman had seven goals and one assist. On Friday, the Severna Park, Md., native scored five goals in the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team’s 13-3 victory over Ohio University. She contributed four points, including three goals and an assist, in the first half as the Commodores broke out to an 8-0 lead on their way to a convincing win. Playing in the final home game of her collegiate career, Hickman scored a pair of goals in the first half as Vanderbilt edged Ohio State, 9-8. She also picked up three ground balls while causing one turnover and controlling one draw. For her impressive performance, Hickman also earned recognition on the weekly womenslacrosse.com Honor Roll. In seven home contests this season, Hickman averaged five points per game. Overall, the communications major leads the team in goals (38) and points (52) for the second season in a row. She is on pace to score more than 40 goals for the third-straight time. This is the second ALC Player of the Week honor for Hickman, who was so recognized in April of 2004. That week, Hickman scored four goals each in a pair of victories at North Carolina and Davidson. The Commodores close out their 2006 season with three road games. This weekend, Vanderbilt travels to Long Island, N.Y., to face Hofstra at Noon on Sunday, April 23. |
