Hazel Promoted to Vanderbilt Football Assistant Operations Post 7/18/2005 Cain, Frank Named As Graduate Assistant Coaches Nashville, Tenn. – Michael Hazel, who served as a graduate assistant football coach at Vanderbilt last year, has been named Assistant Director of Football Operations for the Commodores, Head Coach Bobby Johnson announced today. In the newly created position, Hazel, a graduate of Elon (N.C.) University, will report to Brian Reese, a Director of Sport Operations at Vanderbilt. Reese oversees the Commodore football, women’s lacrosse and women’s bowling programs. Hazel will serve as the Commodores’ liaison to high school coaches and professional teams, and assist Reese in various operational duties related to the football squad. “Michael has impressed all of us with his commitment to our team and his desire to be a key asset in the Vanderbilt football program,” Johnson said. “We think Michael is an ideal fit for this new position, and is an excellent addition to our staff.” Hazel, a football letterwinner at Elon, joined the Vanderbilt football staff as a graduate assistant coach before the 2004 season. In that position, Hazel worked with the Commodore defense. Hazel lettered as a linebacker and special teams player at Elon, helping the squad to a 28-16 record as it transitioned to the I-AA level. He earned undergraduate and master’s degrees at the university, and was an eight-time member of the Elon Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. He was a President’s list recipient on three occasions. Cain, Frank Named Football Graduate Assistants Matt Cain and Andy Frank will serve as Commodore football graduate assistants during the 2005 season, Coach Johnson announced Monday. Cain, 22, will assist Vanderbilt offensive coaches while Frank, 26, will work with the Commodore defensive staff. Cain, the son of Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Ted Cain, earned two varsity letters as a reserve quarterback at Furman (S.C.) University. A walk-on from Easley (S.C.) High School, Cain was awarded a scholarship for his senior season in 2004. He was also a two-time Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient. Frank, a native of Sterling Heights, Mich., was a reserve defensive back and special teams player at Princeton University, earning an undergraduate degree in engineering in 2001. Prior to accepting the Vanderbilt graduate post, Frank served as a defensive assistant at Lincoln (Mich.) High School while also working in the engineering profession. |
