Hansen Named Outland Trophy Player of the Week

Gunnar Hansen and the offensive line did not allow a sack in Vandy's win over No. 1 Alabama

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt offensive lineman Gunnar Hansen has been named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week.

The Football Writers Association of America announced the honor Tuesday, with Hansen also being added to the Outland Trophy Watch List. The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation’s top interior lineman, offensive or defensive, each year at The Home Depot College Football Awards.

The Commodore offensive line helped Vandy control the ball for over 42 minutes in the victory over the Tide while not allowing a sack. Vanderbilt outrushed Alabama 166-78 and generated a season-best 418 yards of total offense.

Hansen recorded the team’s best overall and pass block grades per Pro Football Focus and did not concede a sack or hit on quarterback Diego Pavia.

It’s the second weekly honor for Hansen, as on Monday he was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.

Vanderbilt returns to action on Saturday at Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network and 94.9 The Fan.
