The #13-ranked Commodore women’s golf is currently in fourth place at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., with three teams not yet completing their first round. Sophomore Jennifer Hahn led Vanderbilt with a one-under par, 71, and is currently in second place on the individual leader board.
Vanderbilt finished round one with a team total of 10-over par, 298.
Teams were delayed for most of the morning due to heavy rain in the area, with play really not getting started until 1:30 p.m. CT.
Hahn had four birdies and three bogeys on the Founder’s Course Friday, which is formatted as a par-72, 6,050-yard layout.
“I hit the ball really, really well today,” said Hahn. “I’ve been working pretty hard on the range for the last few weeks. Everything seem to click today, so I had a lot of birdie opportunities.”
The Commodores, who slogged through conditions on Friday, also counted a 73 from freshman Simin Feng, a 74 from junior Irina Gabasa, and an 80 from junior Kendall Martindale. Freshman Antonia Scherer shot a first-round 81.
Arkansas leads the tournament at six-over par, although the Razorbacks still have three to six holes remaining in their first round. LSU is in second at seven-over par, with Auburn in third at eight-over. Both teams completed their first rounds on Friday.
Arkansas, South Carolina, and Alabama will complete their first rounds at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning. The second round is expected to begin at 10 a.m.
