NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by Alex Gladding being named AAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. Jaime Biskup was also named honorable mention.
Gladding had a combined six ground balls and four caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for Vanderbilt, which held its two opponents to 7.5 goals per game. The sophomore defender had three ground balls and two caused turnovers in each game, an 18-9 win against Xavier and a 16-6 victory against Old Dominion to clinch a spot in the American Athletic Conference Championship. The Pompano Beach, Florida, native scored her first career goal the week prior against Lindenwood and has dished out two assists this season.
Biskup, a team captain this year, scored seven goals with two assists for nine points in a 2-0 week that included victories over Xavier and Old Dominion. The graduate leads the team with 64 points off 45 goals and 19 assists.
The Commodores kick off postseason play on Thursday afternoon in the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. Fourth-seeded Vandy is slated to face top-seeded James Madison at 3:30 p.m. CT at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Virginia. The contest will be shown on ESPN+.
