Fourth at East Lake

Commodores to play Texas in match-play competition Tuesday

ATLANTA – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished the 18-hole stroke-play portion of the East Lake Cup in fourth place with a total of 301, a result that will match the Commodores against Texas in match play Tuesday at the East Lake Cup. Senior John Augenstein, junior Harrison Ott, and sophomore Reid Davenport each shot a 3-over 75 to lead the Commodores.

The Commodores, competing in their third East Lake Cup counted the three 75’s from Augenstein, Ott, and Davenport, respectively, and a 76 from freshman William Moll.

“Today is a sprint in this format and unfortunately we got off to a really a tough start,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We struggled to grab any momentum on the front nine. This is such a great golf course and really challenging when out of position. I thought we made some poor decisions that led to some big numbers and it’s hard to get those shots back out here. I am proud of how our guys battled it in today as they continue to show that they will fight with the right kind of competitive character.”

The Longhorns claimed the one-round team title with a final total of 278. Wake Forest’s Mark Power won medalist honors with a total of 5-under 67.

Vanderbilt will tee off Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. CT, with live coverage beginning on the Golf Channel at 2 p.m.

“We have a great opportunity in front of us tomorrow against a really good opponent,” said Limbaugh. “Match play is about digging in and finding a way to do whatever it takes to get a point for the team.”
