In the first women’s event of the day, the 500 freestyle, Erika Deardorf posted the team’s best time of 5:02.33. Margaret Freeman (5:04.01), Amy Salce (5:04.06) and Margaux Georgiadis (2:12.57) also swam the event.

The next women’s event was the 200 IM. Elly Faulkner posted the top Commodore time of 2:04.84.

That was followed by the 50 free, where Sarah Lynch set the top Vandy mark at 24.59. Melissa Roberts posted a mark of 24.83, Chelsea Morey a time of 24.93, Zoe Cooper-Surma had a time of 25.27 and Betsy Galenti finessed in 25.39.

Action then moved to the evening session, where the Commodore 200 freestyle relay team of Caroline Thomas, Morey, Roberts and Lynch finished in 1:37.12.

“It was a good morning for the girls with four lifetime bests,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Jeremy Organ said. “It was a good first day (of individual action).”

“The relay was a little off what we wanted to see, but it was a good effort by the girls and they swam really well.”

The Commodores currently sit in 10th with 46 points, just behind Kentucky’s 54 points.

Action in Knoxville resumes on Friday, February 17, at 10:00 a.m. Vanderbilt swimmers will see action in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 back, as well as the 400 medley relay.

Organ hopes to see some big things from some of his swimmers on Friday.

“It’s a big day tomorrow for is,” Organ said. “There are a lot of swims that give us some opportunities to move up. Everyone is really excited to get up and race tomorrow.”
